Se comienza remontando un viejo sendero de pastoreo que parte desde la misma hostería. El sendero se interna en el valle del Río Alfredo (el mismo que alimenta de energía a la hostería), ascendiendo suavemente por las laderas del Cerro Huemul y con la melodiosa compañía del río. Luego de cuarenta minutos de caminata, se alcanza un impresionante punto panorámico, desde donde se puede apreciar la magnitud del Cerro Fitz Roy emergiendo al otro lado del enorme Lago Viedma. La caminata continúa adentrándose en el valle que se hace cada vez más estrecho, rodeado por el Cordón Huemul y sus picos que alcanzan los 2700 metros; el glaciar de la Laguna Azul ya se puede divisar en el horizonte del valle. El sendero se interna luego en un bosque de lengas y ñires. Durante el trayecto es común ver guanacos y cóndores que se acercan curiosos para observar al visitante. Ver más >>

Partiendo del muelle de la hostería, nos embarcamos en un Zodiac con capacidad para dieciocho pasajeros, que nos garantiza la máxima seguridad en las aguas del Lago Viedma. Zarpamos con rumbo norte, con el Fitz Roy frente a nosotros como un gran faro que nos indica el camino sobre el enorme espejo de agua de 1100 km2. Tenemos cuarenta minutos de navegación antes de llegar al Glaciar Viedma. Durante este tiempo estaremos siempre junto a la costa Oeste del lago, teniendo el privilegio de observar la Reserva Estricta – a donde está prohibido el acceso del hombre- del Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, donde habita la mayor colonia de huemules (ciervo autóctono en peligro de extinción) de la Patagonia Austral. Si bien son extremadamente tímidos, el viajero observador puede tener la suerte de divisar alguno bebiendo agua en las orillas del lago o escondido entre la vegetación.

Se deja atrás el muelle de la hostería y se navega hacia el Oeste por un brazo del Lago Viedma -que se interna en la cordillera de los Andes- conocido como el Seno Moyano. Durante la navegación se pueden apreciar los Cerros Huemul, Mascarello, Moyano y el imponente Cerro Norte, al llegar al final del Seno Moyano, nos encontramos con el valle del río del mismo nombre y al final del valle, descendiendo de las montañas, el Glaciar Moyano, en su parte superior como glaciar colgante y en su parte inferior como Glaciar de valle. Luego de veinticinco minutos de navegación se llega al punto de descenso desde donde se emprende una corta caminata de treinta minutos hasta acceder a lo que se conoce como Laguna del Morro. Allí nos encontramos con un espejo de agua cristalina donde se refleja el verde esmeralda de los bosques de lengas que la rodean. Ver más >>

The visitor sets out on an old grass trail that starts at the same lodge. The path enters the River Alfredo valley (the same river that provides energy to the lodge), gradually ascending by the sides of the Huemul Hill and with the soft music from the river as company. After a forty-minute walk, a most magnificent view can be seen, from where one can appreciate the magnitude of Mt. Fitz Roy emerging from the other side of Viedma Lake. The path continues to enter deeper into the valley that becomes narrower, surrounded by the Cordón Huemul and its peaks that reach 2700 meters in height; the Blue Lagoon glacier can already be seen in the horizon. The footpath then leads into a forest of “lengas” and “ñires”. During the journey it is usual to see guanacos and condors curiously approaching to observe the visitor. See more >>

We leave from the lodge’s pier, were we get on board of a Zodiac with capacity for eighteen passengers, which guarantees maximum security on the Viedma Lake. We set out Northbound, with Mt. Fitz Roy in front like a great lighthouse guiding the way over the enormous mirror of 1100 km2 of water. It takes a forty-minute boat ride to reach Viedma Glacier. During this time, while bordering the Western coast of the lake, the visitors may have the privilege to observe the “Reserva Estricta” (Strict Reserve) – where mankind has no access – of the Los Glaciares National Park, where the largest colony of guemals (domestic stag in extinction) dwell in the Austral Patagonia. In spite of these creatures being extremely shy, the observant traveler may be lucky enough to notice some drinking water from the lake banks or hidden among the vegetation. See more >>

We leave behind the lodge’s pier, heading Westbound along one of Viedma Lake’s branches – which penetrates the Andes Mountains – known as Moyano Bay. During the navigation one can appreciate the Huemul, Mascarello and Moyano Hills as well as the majestic North Hill. While reaching the end of Moyano Bay, one comes across a valley of the river with the same name and at the end of it, descending the mountains, the Moyano Glacier, in its upper part as a hanging glacier and in its lower part as a valley glacier. After twenty- five minutes of navigation one arrives at the descending point, where one sets out for a thirty-minute walk until one comes upon what is known as the Morro Lagoon. A mirror of crystal water reflects the emerald green “lenga” woods that surround the lagoon. See more >>
